I use Windows Vista, Windows XP, OS X Leopard, and Ubuntu Hardy Heron. One thing I’ve learned through my experiences is that there are certain aspects I really like in each of these operating systems. I’ve also learned that there’s some things in each one that really annoy the hell out of me.
And one of those things includes all the fanboys waving the flag for their OS of choice. I would witness OS wars break out in the most unlikely of places! Sports fan message boards! Music forums! And don’t even get me started on visiting a Mac or Windows board. They can’t help but take a pot-shot in every other post in the most mundane, unrelated topics like ‘help me configure my wireless router.’ Who the hell cares!?!? I consider my computer a tool. I accomplish tasks with it. I make my computer work for me, not the other way around. I don’t need someone telling me that my OS sucks with some lame explanation that it’s ‘dumbed down’ or ‘it has an ugly interface’ or that it’s ‘only for geeks’. At the end of the day all the major operating systems are, for the most part, pretty similar.
So I’m here to settle the score. I’ll point things out that the fanboys don’t want to hear, what the fanboys don’t want to admit. I’ll share some of the ridiculous conversations that I come across just to show how ridiculous a fanboy can get. At the same time I hope I can shed some light on each OS and share some tips. I’ll show the haters, that in the end, there’s actually some positive aspects to other operating systems…and in the end ‘we can all just get along’.
I’ll also share some news on how each OS is competing with each other for your desktop space. Because in the end, competition is good, and we can all be happy that we’ll get better software in the end. Just make sure you pick the OS that works best for YOU (because you’ll always pick the wrong one according to the rival fanboy followers).
